💡 Use a small graphite or ceramic crucible. Keep flame neutral (not oxidizing) to avoid carbon contamination.
- Crucible: Graphite or high-alumina ceramic (rated ≥1700 °C)
- Mold: Graphite molds for bars, or investment molds for casting jewelry (use lost wax casting if you want detailed shapes).
- Flux: Use a stainless-compatible flux (borax + silica blend) to minimize oxidation.
- Full face shield, heatproof gloves, leather apron
- Use outdoors or with a fume hood
- Ventilation for chromium fumes (stainless steel releases hexavalent chromium when overheated)
