National IQ by Country: A Combined Ranking of 198 Countries and Territories

Updated October 2026

Researchers have spent decades compiling estimates of average IQ by country. This post merges two large, recent compilations into one sorted list. Where both sources cover a country, the ranking uses the average of the two. Where only one source covers it, that figure is used on its own.

The Sources

Source A: Parra & Kirkegaard (2025), National IQs: measurement and defense, OpenPsych. A composite of the Lynn & Vanhanen and Lynn & Becker (Ulster Institute) datasets, Rindermann's estimates, and international scholastic assessments (PISA, TIMSS, PIRLS, World Bank test scores, Basic Skills Dataset). It covers 198 countries and territories and is scaled with the United Kingdom at 99.26.
Source B: 2025 online-test compilation (published by WORLDOSTATS from international-iq-test.com data). It covers 126 countries.

Regional Averages (Source A, by dataset family)

Parra & Kirkegaard report regional means of roughly 100 for East Asia, 95 for Europe, 85 for Arab countries, 80 for Latin America, 75 for South Asia and 70 for Sub-Saharan Africa. Their population-weighted world average is 85.3.

The two sources use different scales. Source A anchors the United Kingdom at 99.26, while Source B reports raw online-test averages, so the two columns are not interchangeable. The Combined column is a simple average of whichever columns have a value. Countries with only one source are ranked on that single figure.
